As I'm learning about the human trafficking situation here in the States, I'm coming across some very alarming findings!
One is this 2008 report by Georgia Senator Nancy Shaefer about the corruption in the Child Protective Services in GA. https://fightcps.com/report-of-georgia-senator-nancy-schaefer-on-cps-corruption/
She doesn't say that there is trafficking per se, but her allegations and findings do suggest that people in the are making a lot of money on keeping kids in the system, basically using them for financial profit or gain - a definition of human trafficking. Also it seems that there are nefarious actors that play in this system who use and abuse these foster kids.
There is a lot of talk about children in the foster system who are at risk of trafficking, but I never imagined that it would be perpetrated by the staff of CPS! Of course most CPS workers are not doing this but this report suggests that it isn't just a few bad apples. No wonder kids runaway! And when they run away, it is often an "out of the frying pan into the fire kind of situation" as they have loads of vulnerabilities and have likely been groomed for being rapidly picked up by a trafficker.
I'll be going through this document and some other documents to learn more about what's going on and do a podcast about it.
FYI Shaefer was found dead in March 2010. Some say she was "suicided" for her work in uncovering the CPS corruption.

Erika joins me for another discussion of what we can learn from Sound of Freedom and how we can evaluate organizations in the counter-trafficking sector. We spend less time discussing the film and more about what we can look for in a good NGO. Let us know what you think about it!

I’m working on a writing project that requires documentation and references. I need someone who loves research - someone who loves to dig into academic spaces and find articles and other resources pertaining to health and human trafficking. I need updated references and need someone with some extra time to help. If someone can dedicate 16 hours or more per month then there’s bonus pay! Please contact me [email protected] if you are interested.
It was an honor to participate in the filming of Gender Transformation (https://www.gendertransformation.com/) , a docudrama which follows the story of a teenage girl and her experiences navigating her mental health issues and gender dysphoria. The stories of several other detransitioners are also highlighted. The narrative is interspersed with commentary and background provided by mothers, teachers, therapists, lawyers, and physicians. Last Friday night (16 June) I got to attend the premier of this documentary at the Manhattan Film Festival and walk the red carpet! In addition to the screening, I participated in TV and newspaper interviews as well as a live panel discussion after the screening.
Here is where you can see it: https://www.gendertransformation.com/
Please watch this film. It is powerful. It will be an eye-opener for many people about how deep and dark the realities of the transgender movement. Even if you know something about what’s happening, you will learn something and it ...
The three "criminally conspired to bring [a] 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit him for his kidney", reports The Guardian. This is perhaps the first case of its kind under the UK's Modern Slavery Act.
